แนะนำ victoria hotel ค่ะ ราคาประมาณคืนละ 3 พันกว่า อยู่ใกล้ MRT Bras Basah มากค่ะ
ออก Exit A เดินเลี้ยวขวาแล้วเลี้ยวซ้ายตรงซอยถัดไปก็ถึงด้านหลังโรงแรมค่ะไม่เกิน 100 เมตร
ด้านล่างมี 7-11 และป้ายรถเมล์ สะดวกมากค่ะ ใกล้ Orchard, China Town, Bugis มากๆ

MRT from airport to orchard road

My boyfriend and I are travelling to Singapore in march. This is my first holiday without my dad (who organises and thinks or everything).

We are staying on orchard road and are wondering if the mrt goes from the airport to there.
I've been to Singapore before with my family but always got taxis.
I've heard Singapore is expensive for taxis so was seeking the alternative of the train.
Also if anyone can tell me locations of Victoria's Secret stores that would be great ad the distance from orchard road.  (We don't have them on the Gold Coast :( ).......

...A taxi would cost around SGD22 and take 20-25min. MRT to Orchard/ Somerset or Dhoby Ghaut station for Orchard Road would take around 50 min and involve a change of trains at Tanah Merah and a change of lines from the Green east west line to the Red North Sount line at City Hall station and cost around SGD2 a person.  MRT is a pain with large suitcases....

...You will have to change trains at at least one busy major interchange - that particular run is a royal pain with luggage and you have to get those cases out of the MRT system itself and to the hotel - depending on how close the hotel is to either Somerset or Orchard MRT this can range from easy to awkward - for example shallow as it is Id hate to lug cases from the MRT up the hill to the York or Elizabeth.
Yes it will save money - the cost will be 2SGD per person rather than 20SGD per taxi. But compared to the cost of flying in in the first place that taxi ride is pretty cheap. Taxis are considerably faster and more pleasant as well.
An alternative if you are travelling solo is the shuttle bus - you go to the ground transport desk on arrival you can get a place on one of those - its 9SGD per adult and you get onto a shuttle that goes to the hotels - you will have to wait until a full bus is ready (not usually an issue after a big plane lands), and it may stop at more than one hotel but its midrange on both price and time....

Chinese New Year's Day Public Holiday - shops closed?

I was wondering what happens to Singapore during public holidays such as the Chinese New Year's Day?Are there any shops/businesses opened?  Is there any processions?

Most shops will close the first 2 days to give staff time off. Large stores open from the 3rd day but smaller shops, hawker stalls and family owned businesses likely to be closed longer as this is their only break for the year.

It's not that dire. Here's the list of opening times for Orchard road malls

Only the Sunday is badly affected. Little India, Mustafas mall, the Arab quarter, hotel dinning establisment, lots of resturants, all tourist attraction (Sentosa,USS, Zoo, bird park , etc.... ) will be open.

This is just for Chinese newyear by the way. For other public holidays expect opening times to be extended and all shopping areas to be busier than normal.

For processions, check out the Chingay celebrations, Singapore's annual Chinese New Year procession that has evolved into a street parade of international and community performances.

The parade takes place 1 week after Chinese New Year, on 22nd and 23rd Feb, at the F1 Pit Building next to the Flyer. Expect some fireworks at the finale too!

Big malls will be opened but not all shops on the first 2 days of cny. Good time for shopping as there be after cny sales.

Many restaraunts esp Chinese restaraunts will be close the first 2 days. And some will increase their price due to cny.

Tourist attractions will be open as usual.

Singapore hotels offer holding of luggage after checkout

I need to book a hotel and as I will be leaving on a late night flight I would like to leave my bags at the hotel after checkout. Anyone got any suggestions?

Any of the decent ones do, its a pretty common requirement for visitors.
In extremis it is not too much of a hop to dive to the airport, drop the bags at left luggage and return to the city, certainly cheaper than paying for an extra night or even some of the late checkout charges I have seen.

I stayed in a 2-star hotel and I could leave my luggage at the reception, but send them an e-mail and ask before booking a non-refundable offer.
